1. General Interviewing Techniques (GIT) Training

July 1-11, 2015

The training was provided to 19 newly hired interviewers in July 2015. The nine days training was aimed to train the interviewers on the techniques and principles and ethics of interview. The trainees were trained on GIT integrated with Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) techniques. The resource persons were highly experienced researchers devoted to social science research since 1996 at ISER-N: Dr. Dirgha Ghimire, Executive Director; Ms. Indra Chaudhary, Study Manager; Mr. Bishnu Adhikari, Data Manager; Mr. Prem Prakash Pandit, Senior Research Officer; Mr. Rajendra Ghimire, Research Officer; and Ms. Adina Gurung, Research Officer.

2. Study Specific Training

July 12-13, 2015Training: Study Specific Training (2015)

Two days extensive Study Specific Training (SST) for the first phase of data collection on Household Agriculture Calendar and Food Security Survey under Labor Outmigration, Agricultural Productivity and Food Security was provided to the 46 field workers (4 Assistant Research Officers, 3 Team Leaders, 5 Senior Interviewers and 34 interviewers). The major goal of the training was to provide information about the study, study objectives, importance of the study and train the interviewers in collecting information through CAPI and Agriculture calendar so as to ensure quality data collection. The question wise objectives were discussed and conducted in class practice. The resource persons in the training were Dr. Dirgha Jibi Ghimire(PI and Executive Director) , Mrs. Indra Chaudhary (Study Manager), Mr. Bishnu Adhikari (Computing Manager), Mr. Prem Prakash Pandit (Senior Research Officer), Mr. Rajendra Ghimire (Research Officer) and Mr. Krishna Shrestha (Research Officer).

3. Supervisors Training

July 5-6, 2015

Two days training on Sample Management using the program Client Survey DG was conducted. Survey DG Client is the program recently developed by ISER-N and BITS Solution Pvt. Ltd. for effective data collection through computers. The training primarily focused on using the Survey DG for sample management for CAPI. The goal of the training was to make supervisors learn about the program (Survey DG) and use the program to manage the sample, i.e, to assign the sample lines to the respective interviewers, to receive, reallocate, check the records and interviews submitted, etc using the Survey DG. The resource persons in the training were Mr. Nirmal Subedi (Programmer) and Mr. Bishnu Adhikari (Data Manager).

4. Crop Cutting Training

October 14-15, 2015

Two days Rice Crop Cutting Training was conducted. The training was provided in order to prepare the interviewers for the Crop Yield Measurement Survey. During the training, the trainees were taught about the background theoretical knowledge and given intensive practical exercise in the field about the methods of plot set up, crop cutting and yield and moisture measurement. Altogether, there were 13 participants and they were trained by Dr. Lal Prasad Omagai, Assistant Professor, Institute for Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Tribhuvan University.

5. Survey Data Analysis Training

November 21-25, 2016

An intensive five-day training on Survey Data Analysis Techniques was provided to four researchers, two each from Agricultural and Forestry University (AFU) and Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) respectively. As part of our national research capacity building aim, four researchers from the organization involved in the field of agricultural and migration research were invited. Trainees included Mr. Badri Aryal, Mr. Govinda KC., Mr. Namdev Upadhyaya and Mr. Yogendra Acharya. Resource persons for this training included Dr. William G. Axinn, Professor, University of Michigan, Dr. Dirgha Jibi Ghimire, Professor, University of Michigan, Dr. Prem Bhandari, University of Michigan, Mr. Bishnu Adhikari, Data Manager, ISER-N, and Ms. Rija Manadhar from ISER-N.
